How to use Unlock PDF
- Select or drag your password-protected PDF.
- If it asks, type the password you use to open it.
- Download the unlocked PDF — it opens without a password from now on.
Which PDFs can be unlocked?
Two kinds. PDFs with an open password — common for bank and credit card statements, salary slips, e-Aadhaar and e-PAN — can be unlocked when you know the password. PDFs that open freely but block printing, copying or editing are unlocked without any password.
We don't crack passwords
This tool removes protection only from documents you are allowed to open. It cannot and will not guess or break unknown passwords. If you have forgotten a password, ask the sender of the document for it or for a new copy.
Your password stays private
Unlocking runs entirely in your browser using the open-source qpdf engine. Your document and password are never uploaded, logged or stored — important for financial and identity documents.
Common passwords for statements
Banks and government services often use a combination of your details, such as the first letters of your name plus your date of birth, or part of your account or PAN number. The exact format is usually explained in the email that came with the PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is unlocking a PDF legal?
Removing a password from your own documents, or documents you are authorized to open, is fine. Do not use it to bypass protection on documents you have no right to access.
Will the unlocked PDF look different?
No. Only the encryption is removed; pages, text, images and quality stay exactly the same.
It says the password is wrong. What now?
Passwords are case-sensitive. Check capital letters, try the format described in the sender's email, and make sure there are no spaces.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, so they stay completely private.
