Why number PDF pages?

Page numbers make long reports, theses, contracts and legal bundles easy to reference, print and review.

Formats available

Choose a plain number (1), “Page 1”, or “Page 1 of 10”. Numbers can go at the bottom or top, left, center or right.

Page numbering tips

Bottom center is the standard for reports and theses; bottom right suits legal bundles and contracts. If your document has a cover page that should not be numbered, split it off first, number the rest starting at 1, then merge the cover back. Use “Page 1 of 10” for documents that will be printed and stapled.

Formats explained

“1” is the cleanest and works for most documents. “Page 1” is clearer when pages may be printed and shuffled. “Page 1 of 10” lets readers confirm nothing is missing, which is useful for legal documents, applications and anything sent by post.

Frequently asked questions

Will the numbers cover my content?

Numbers are placed close to the page edge. If a page has content right at the bottom, choose a top position or a smaller font size.

Can I start numbering from a different number?

Yes. Set the starting number, for example 5 if your document continues from an earlier file.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, so they stay completely private.
