What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones. It saves space, but many Windows PCs, Android phones and websites cannot open it. JPG works everywhere.
Stop your iPhone saving HEIC photos
On iPhone, open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose “Most Compatible” to save new photos as JPG. Photos shared through email or messaging apps are usually converted automatically, but files copied by cable to a Windows PC stay HEIC — that is when this converter helps.
HEIC vs JPG quality
HEIC files are about half the size of JPG at the same quality. Converting at 90% JPG quality keeps your photos looking the same, but the JPG files will be larger. Live Photos are saved as their main still image.
Frequently asked questions
Why won't my HEIC photo open on Windows?
Windows needs an extra codec from the Microsoft Store to display HEIC. Converting to JPG avoids that entirely.
Is photo information (EXIF) kept?
The converted JPG keeps the image itself; metadata such as location may not be carried over, which can be useful for privacy.
Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?
Yes. Select multiple photos and download them all together as a ZIP file.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, so they stay completely private.
Is this tool really free?
Yes. It is 100% free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it.
